My Top 5 Games

I'm a pretty avid gamer. Not as much as I used to be, but I can still sit down for hours just letting my brain die moving pixelated/polygonal characters around. However, this generation of consoles is pretty bad. Very few games are worth playing, and the consoles themselves are pretty boring. The only one of the three I really enjoy is the Wii. Of course, there are only a handful of games for it. Metroid Prime 3 being the main one. The Xbox is nothing but manly-man, shooter games, which don't interest me, and the PS3 is practically dead.

Well, it's possible I'm being too hard on the new consoles, my favorite games are pretty hard to knock off the top 5 pedestals. Let's see...

Here they are, in no particular order:

-The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Top down, 8-bit Zelda adventure. All of the true Zelda mechanics and elements are present, there's tons of crap to collect, and the bosses are tricky and challenging without being Nintendohard. I personally think this is the Zelda game.

-Super Metroid. Ultimate platforming and shooting action. Moody and creepy and weird design, moody and creepy and weird music. I'm still surprised this game is so re-playable now. Usually I can burn through the game in one-or-two sittings, and still come back for more. That's the mark of a great game.

-Super Mario 3. Probably the best Mario title, and that's saying something, he's had a million of them. 8 worlds of increasingly challenging stages and surprising variety. Pipes, clouds, water, fire, this game has it all...including a power-up that turns you into a Tanuki. And, becoming a Tanuki for a short time before the power is stolen away by a f*ckin' fireball is all it takes to make this game a top-fiver.

-Final Fantasy Tactics. I've spent a noticeable percentage of my life in this game. The total time spent playing this game is easily over 500 hours...and I. Keep. Playing. It.

-Slot 5...ok, I know I said top 5, but this slot tends to change around a lot, depending on my mood. Here are the usual suspects: Vagrant Story, Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando, Metroid Prime, and Einhander.

Those are they. Those are the games I consider as close to perfect as possible, and I can't think of any negatives for each of those games.

One last thing, I know my list is very Nintendo skewed, but if there were more, better games on other systems, then the list would be different. It just so happens that the older Nintendo consoles had better games and the games still hold up today. Which kinda makes it unfair to modern consoles, I mean, how can any game made today stand up to the likes of Super Metroid.

As far as I'm concerned, there aren't console wars anymore, because the best games have been made already.
